    Gearing questions Empty Gearing questions

    Post by rcracer207 Sun Aug 30, 2009 9:33 pm

I'm thinking about changing my gearing in my Jato to better suit it to track use. Racing on a tight hard packed track I obviously don't need the tall stock gearing of the Jato.

I'm thinking about going from the stock 54 tooth spur to a 56 or 58 tooth. However I am concerned that by going to lower gearing I may have more wheel spin. I'm planning on mounting up a new set of Pro-Line M3 Bow-Ties before next race so that should help a little.

I've never done any gearing changes on any of my trucks so I'm just not sure how much difference to expect out of 2 or 4 teeth on the spur. I understand the gearing, I have a good background in motorcycles and dirt bikes and have played with gearing before.

Just thought you guys might be able to give me a little bit of an idea what 2 or 4 teeth up on the spur would do for me??

Nate, I take it your gearing for Casco's track? I'm no expert in fact I run electric truck but I believe that 2-4 teeth on the spur would be ample, I can't imagine you would need more, 4 may be to much. I would think if you gear down you will have more torque and that may give you more wheel spin? scratch Maybe you can adjust you throttle setting on your radio to a lower % of throw? Good luck. affraid

Going to add two teeth to the spur. They are cheap. the Jato is geared really high I probably could have added 4 teeth right off the bat but I'll take small steps as spurs are cheap.

I like a lil taller gearing I think i get more bite less spin. Have to be a lil easy on the trigger thats all, then again you might want it a lil loose to help around the turns either way. you will find something you like im sure
